Terms of Reference – The Crusaders Alumni

Purpose 

The Crusaders Alumni (The Alumni) supports the Crusaders Rugby Club (The Club) and facilitates the on-going involvement of past players, coaches, referees, trainers and ex-Board Members. The Alumni provides opportunities for maintaining the life-long bonds that the game provides. The Alumni helps promote the long-term sustainability of The Club and the sport of Rugby. 

Membership 

All men and women past players, coaches, referees, trainers and ex-Board Members are invited to join The Alumni. A mechanism will be established to encourage retiring players and others to join the Alumni database. This will ensure The Alumni is represented by all eras and genders of The Club and will continue to grow over time, commensurate with The Club. 

Except for Life Members, Alumni are not members of The Crusader Rugby Club, unless they are members in good standing with The Club via a separately purchased voting Alumni Membership.

Leadership 

The Alumni is organized and led by a Committee of about 4-6 Alumni. Ideally, the Alumni Committee is made up of men and women from all eras of the Club. Additional and replacement committee members can be appointed freely by the existing committee members to keep the number at about 6. Committee members have no specific term, so can resign when they wish.

Accountability/Relationship 

The Club Executive recognizes The Alumni and works with the Alumni Committee to ensure alignment of priorities and efforts to achieve the purpose of both The Alumni and The Club. There is a formal link between The Alumni and The Club Executive. Alumni Committee representatives attend the Crusaders Executive meetings as needed by either The Club Executive or The Alumni.  

The Crusaders Alumni govern the usage of all donations to the Crusaders Alumni Fund for the benefit of the club. The Crusaders Alumni prioritizes projects and provides the Club Executive authorization to use funds exclusively for those projects approved by the Crusaders Alumni.

The Alumni Committee meets as required. The Club and Alumni provides up-to-date contact details for members of each committee. 

Communications

The Alumni Committee will communicate with The Alumni members on a timely basis to advertise Alumni and Club events.
